Modular LED lighting: 6 benefits for businesses

For business owners, it is important that LED lighting in the workplace is functional, affordable and safe. But the workplace does not stand still, sometimes flexible work lighting is desirable. This is not always possible with a traditional lighting system. Modular LED lighting is the ideal solution for this.

Companies choose modular task lighting for several reasons. Flexible installation, scalability and future-proofing are key factors in this context. It is easy to adapt existing installations without having to replace the entire lighting system. As a result, workplace lighting can last a lot longer.

At D-Lighted, we have a lot of knowledge and experience around the subject of modular lighting. Our Deetronix product line is fully designed with modularity and universality as basic principles. This makes products completely customisable and easy to maintain.

Advantage 1: ease of installation

A major advantage of modular LED lighting is the flexibility that such lighting systems can offer the user. It is possible to (dis)assemble lighting components with minimal use of tools without having to modify the infrastructure.

To use an example from our own practical experience: Deetronix retrofit LED modules are a smart solution to modernise existing (LED) fluorescent lighting. The modules can be used while retaining existing voltage rails, mounting clips are universal and internal wiring can be bridged. As a result, mounting only takes 3 minutes.

Modular LED lighting is designed with ease of installation as a basic principle. Not only does easy installation save a lot of valuable labour time, but it can also significantly reduce installation and maintenance costs for the end user.

Benefit 2: Scalability

Using separate, detachable modules for a business lighting system is very nice for a growing company. Those who want to add office space or change the layout of the working environment can move and reconfigure modules without any problems.

Retrofitting existing infrastructure for LED lighting is costly for the average entrepreneur. When modular LED lighting is used, an existing lighting system can be expanded and scaled up quickly and relatively inexpensively.

The costs saved by this are enough for many companies to prefer LED modules as the 'better choice'. Especially in working environments that are in constant flux, or companies that periodically change locations (e.g. to expand), the modular nature of lighting will serve them well.

Indeed, it is possible to move to a new location while retaining the existing (modular) LED lighting system. After all, dismantling and reinstallation is relatively easy. Modules are universally deployable and fully standardised, so compatibility at a new location need not pose any problems.

Benefit 3: Future-proofing

Too often, practice shows that specific plugs, drivers, brackets, or cables are no longer available. As a result, in practice entire LED installations sometimes have to be replaced, which is not only enormously expensive, but also time-consuming. Moreover, old parts have to be recycled and new ones produced, which is bad for the environment.

Modular lighting solves this problem by always being universal and modular. Modules are available with all well-known brands of LEDs or LED drivers. Renewal is therefore not a problem, even after many years.

This can save a huge amount of money in the long run, as there is no need to replace the lighting in such a case. Only individual components need to be swapped, which saves a huge amount of money.

Benefit 4: More efficient maintenance

In line with future-proofing, maintenance of LED lighting with a modular nature will also be a lot easier. The time that can be saved by replacing individual modules will make maintenance (e.g. cabling or other infrastructure) more efficient.

Since time is automatically also money (after all, a maintenance service is not free), the cost of maintenance will soon drop significantly. Maintenance of 'ordinary' LED work lighting will be more complicated and more expensive. The initial investment in LED modules can be recouped bit by bit over the lifetime of the system, as it were.

Maintenance in case of a short circuit or simply cleaning is also a lot easier with modular components. If necessary, a component can be quickly removed and put back, should a maintenance job (in any form) still be required. This is also the case when individual modules are added afterwards, such as energy-saving smart sensors.

Benefit 5: Adding smart sensors

Increasingly important in the world of LED lighting is the use of smart lighting control technology. These include motion sensors, programmable timers, or daylight sensors, for example. Not only can these technologies provide great energy savings, but also a better lighting experience.

With modular lighting, adding and removing these smart sensors is generally very easy. Often, a so-called 'sensor base' is used, to which the smart sensors can be added.

The LED modules in our Deetronix product line are also sensor-ready delivered. Note that the addition of smart sensors is completely optional. The optional sensors are mainly intended to improve the ease of use, lifetime and efficiency of the LED lighting.

Benefit 6: Sustainability

LED lighting is already fundamentally a very energy-efficient and sustainable choice. Modular lighting goes one step further, however, as individual components of the lighting installation can be easily replaced and relocated. Individual components are thus reusable.

Modular retrofit LED modules are also a good practical example of a circular product, as existing voltage rails of the (LED) fluorescent lighting can be used again after the installation process. This significantly extends the lifetime of the voltage rails.

With the addition of smart sensors, the lifespan and energy efficiency of commercial lighting can also be improved. This is good for the user-friendliness of the lighting, but mainly pleasant for both the wallet and the environment.
